Comments: Bay Area Bikes is one of the few Kryptonite dealers in the East Bay to stock this product. Kudos for helping to deter bike theft! I have both this Kryptonite Bike Revolution/Bike Shepherd label and the National Bike Registry label, as they complement each other. NBR's established and well-known database is accessible only to law enforcement agencies, which use it routinely to link recovered bikes with their owners. NBR's other advantage lies in its recent affiliation with BoomerangIt, a general property return scheme whose labels can be used on luggage, keys, and electronic devices, not just on your bike. Kryptonite's database is relatively new, but is accessible to members of the public, which is its big advantage. Anyone with Internet access can check the database when buying a used bike, or if a bike on the street looks as if it was stolen and abandoned. Camera-equipped smart phones can even read the QR barcode directly. The Kryptonite label allows for immediate, real-time, on-the-street recovery of stolen bikes, which the National Bike Registry does not.
